
Buchanan Signs Generation Adidas Deal

NEW YORK – Syracuse forward Tajon Buchanan has agreed to a Generation adidas contract with Major League Soccer (MLS). Buchanan will forego his final two years of college eligibility and enter the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 11 in Chicago.

It marks the fifth consecutive season that a member of the Orange has signed a Generation adidas contract. Its five signees are the most for any school in the country.

Buchanan had a breakout season in 2018. The sophomore posted career highs in points (20), goals (8) and assists (4). He led the Orange in points and goals and ranked fourth in assists. Buchanan recorded multiple goals in three matches, including a career-high three in Syracuse's win against St. Bonaventure. He is the first member of the Orange to post 20 points in a season since Ben Polk had 28 in 2015.

The All-ACC First Team honoree ranked fourth in the league in points per game (1.33), fifth in goals per game (0.53) and tied for seventh in goals. Buchanan was selected to the All-South Region Second Team and the All-ECAC Team.

The 2019 Generation adidas class also includes Frankie Amaya (UCLA), Griffin Dorsey (Indiana), Siad Haji (Virginia Commonwealth), Jon Nelson (North Carolina), Dayne St. Clair (Maryland) and JJ Williams (Kentucky).
