SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A season-high 12 three-pointers, including six from Elijah Hughes, led Syracuse (10-4, 1-0 ACC) past Notre Dame (10-5, 0-2 ACC), 72-62, on Saturday.

Hughes contributed a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds and Oshae Brissett added a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Hughes scored 15 points or more for the seventh straight contest. Tyus Battle gave the Orange a third player in double digits with 17 points.

Notre Dame was led by T.J. Gibbs, who tallied 18 points on six 3-pointers, and John Mooney, who snatched a game-high 14 rebounds in addition to his 14 points.

HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
With Syracuse clinging to a 60-58 advantage with 6:17 remaining, the Orange went on a 10-1 run. A 3-pointer from Hughes was followed by two free throws by Brissett and a step-back jumper from Battle the upped the lead to 67-58. After the Irish got a free throw from Nate Laszewski, Frank Howard canned a 3-pointer to put the Orange ahead, 70-59, with 57 seconds left.

THREE-POINT FIREWORKS
The two rivals matched 3-point shots in the first half, each connecting seven times from beyond the arc. Syracuse made one more 3-pointer than Notre Dame in the second half and finished with a season-best 12.

IRISH COME OUT FIRING
The hosts raced out to a 20-10 in the first seven minutes of play. Gibbs and D.J. Harvey each had two 3-pointers in the solid start and John Mooney contributed back-to-back dunks to end the stretch.

Syracuse countered with a 12-3 run that featured five points from Elijah Hughes and four points from Jalen Carey. A 3-pointer by Brissett pulled the Orange within one, 23-22, with 7:52 before the intermission.

Another 3-ball from Brissett gave Syracuse its first lead since the opening basket, 37-34, at the 1:19 mark. Notre Dame used a free throw from Mooney and a last-second 3-pointer from Nate Laszewski, to take a 38-37 margin into the break.

SYRACUSE GRABS ADVANTAGE EARLY IN THE SECOND
The Orange tallied the first nine points of the second half with a 3-pointer from Hughes mixed in with baskets from Howard, Brissett and Paschal Chukwu, Syracuse led 46-38 and would not trail again.

Syracuse improved to 3-0 with a starting lineup of Battle, Howard, Marek Dolezaj, Brissett and Hughes.
Syracuse increased its series advantage with Notre Dame to 29-21, and halted a two-game losing streak against the Irish.
Notre Dame wore gold uniforms for the contest. The Irish entered the game with a 56-13 (.812) record in games in gold during the tenure of Coach Mike Brey.
Syracuse moved to 4-2 in ACC openers.
The Orange won the battle of the boards, 46-36. with a 46-36 advantage. Syracuse grabbed 15 offensive boards on the afternoon.
Hughes' six three-pointers were the most for an individual since Battle's performance on Dec. 16, 2017 against Georgetown, when he recorded six in an overtime victory.
Syracuse had two players post double-doubles (Brissett and Hughes) since Dec. 27, 2017 when Chuckwu (15 points-11 rebounds) and Brissett (11 points-12 rebounds) turned the trick against Eastern Michigan.
