ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse opened ACC play with a victory for the second straight year with a 72-62 win at Notre Dame on Saturday. The Orange's outside shooting was key in the win as they hit a season-high 12 3-pointers. Redshirt junior Elijah Hughes led the way with a career-high six as he scored a personal-best 22 points. He also pulled down 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Hughes has become one of the best outside shooters in the ACC as he ranks sixth in the ACC in 3-pointers made per game (2.57).
Â
With the win, Syracuse extended its winning streak to three and improved its record to 10-4.
Â
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Clemson had its four-game winning streak snapped last Saturday after an 87-68 loss at No. 1 Duke. The Tigers enter Wednesday's game with a 10-4 overall record and 0-1 in ACC play.
Â
Marcquise Reed leads an experienced Clemson squad as one of three graduate students on the roster. He is one of the top scorers in the ACC, averaging 19.6 points per game this season, which is good for fourth in the league. Fellow grad student Shelton Mitchell and senior Elijah Thomas are each contributing 13.6 points per game. In addition, Thomas ranks 12th in the ACC in rebounding (7.4 rpg.).
Â
Brad Brownell is in his ninth season at the helm of the Clemson program. Last season, he guided the Tigers to 25 victories, which tied the school record for wins in a season, and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
Â
THE SERIES
Syracuse holds a slight lead in the all-time series with Clemson, 4-3. The Orange have won the last two meetings between the two schools, including a 55-52 victory in the Carrier Dome last season. In a game that featured nine ties and 11 lead changes, Syracuse scored six of the last eight points to post a 55-52 win in the regular-season finale. Tyus Battle and Oshae Brissett each scored 17 points to lead the 'Cuse. The two combined for 25 of the Orange's 33 second-half points.
