Sarah Crummey (women's rowing) and Carl Jones (football) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 14.
Â
A senior from Auckland, New Zealand, Crummey is a dual major in psychology and sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences. In June, she was named to the All Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Rowing Team and was one of nine Orange oarswomen to receive Scholar-Athlete Honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). In order to qualify for CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors, an athlete must compete in a minimum of 75 percent of the team's spring races and carry a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher for her through the fall semester of that school year. Crummey is a three time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all six semesters since arriving at Syracuse.
Â
Jones, a senior defensive back and special teams player for 'Cuse football, is majoring in political science in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Twinsburg, Ohio native is a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and a four-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll selection. Jones has played in all 43 games of his career on the Orange special teams unit. In 2018, he was a member of a Syracuse coverage team that ranked first in the ACC in kickoff return yardage defense.
Â
The fall season continues this weekend for the Orange oarswomen as they travel to Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta, followed by the Cornell Autumn Classic in Ithaca on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Â
Jones and Syracuse football return to the Dome this Friday night, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. for an ACC matchup against Pittsburgh. It is Family Weekend for the Orange and the game will be televised live on ESPN.
