Orange Welcome Newest Recruit

On a day where familiar faces from Orange teams past returned to the Dome, it was the program's newest member which highlighted the Orange Alumni Classic.
Five-year-old Gaven Bort signed his NLI to join the Syracuse men's lacrosse program alongside his parents, head coach John Desko and the entire team. Bort, who has cystic fibrosis and the Orange were paired through Team IMPACT. Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes.
Nate Solomon '19 initiated the process with Team IMPACT prior to last season after learning of the Team IMPACT through a connection with the organization during an internship. While the entire team has continued the cause, Luke Strang, Nick DiPietro and Tucker Dordevic were the main organizers of today's event.
Bort has elected to wear No. 27, a nod to his favorite player, redshirt-junior goaltender Luke Strang.
As for the games themselves, both were competitive. Both games featured one-goal margins. Following a successful Legends Game, the 2020 Orange were split up into two teams.
Griffin Cook was the team's leading scorer with a hattrick, while Tucker Dordevic (1-2) and Mikey Berkman (1-2) also contributed a three-point efforts. Basil Aburn (2-0), Jake Nelson (0-2), and Stephen Rehfuss (1-1) also registered multi-point days for 'Cuse.
