
Orange Hold off Demon Deacons, Win 4-2

Syracuse, N.Y. – Four combined goals in the third quarter led to the highest-scoring Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Game for Syracuse this season. The 15th-ranked Orange earned a 4-2 win over No. 20 Wake Forest to tally their 10th win of the season and improve to 2-3 in league play. Four different members of the Syracuse squad scored in the victory and SJ Quigley tallied her first game-winning goal of the season.
Wake Forest (7-9, 0-5 ACC) scored back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of the second half, erasing a 2-0 Syracuse lead. The Orange kept their composure and took the lead back in the 38th minute when Quigley tipped in a shot by Carolin Hoffmann in the 38th minute.
Laura Graziosi barreled through a pair of Wake Forest defenders and fired a shot to the upper-90 for an insurance goal in the 39th minute.
Charlotte de Vries scored on a corner in the 11th minute to give Syracuse an early 1-0 lead. Sarah Luby tallied her third goal of the season when she connected on a cross from Claire Cooke in the 27th minute for a 2-0 lead that held to halftime.
Meike Lanckohr and Alexis Grippo both scored for Wake Forest in the loss and assisted on each other's goals.
Syracuse returns to action Sunday, Oct. 27, when the Orange look to avenge an early-season 2-1 loss to Cornell. 'Cuse and the Big Red face off for the 33rd time in program history. The Orange lead the series 29-3-1. Syracuse will recognize its three seniors, Claire Webb, Stephanie Harris and Luby before the game, slated to start at 2 p.m. Admission and parking are free for all Syracuse home games.
