Syracuse University student-athletes Taylor Bennett (women's soccer) and Sterling Hofrichter (football) earned Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 28.
Â
Bennett, a senior and Dryden, N.Y. native, is majoring in physical education with an emphasis in coaching in the School of Education. She has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in three semesters and was included on the 2018-19 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Honor Roll.
Â
A defender, Bennett has started in all but two of her 67 games played with the Orange. She has scored twice and recorded 12 shots in 14 games thus far in the 2019 campaign.
Â
Hofrichter, a redshirt senior from Valrico, Fla., already holds a bachelor's degree in health and exercise science from Syracuse, and is now pursuing a master's degree in public health. He has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll four times and earned a spot on the 2016-17 ACC Academic Honor Roll. Hofrichter is one of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS award in college football, given each year to an NCAA Division I FBS senior who has notable achievements in community, classroom, character and competition.
Â
A punter and placekicker, Hofrichter is a three-time candidate for the Ray Guy Award presented to the nation's top punter. His 45 yards per punt average in 2019 ranks 17th nationally and he was named ACC Specialist of the Week twice.
Â
Thursday, Oct. 31 is Senior Night for the women's soccer team and Bennett is one-of-five seniors being honored in a pregame ceremony. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. against No. 1 Virginia at SU Soccer Stadium. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to join in the Senior Night festivities. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. Admission and parking are free.
Â
Hofrichter and Syracuse football are back in the Dome this Saturday to take on ACC Atlantic foe Boston College. Kickoff is set for noon and the game will be televised live on the ACC Network. Fans can click here to purchase tickets.
