SYRACUSE, NY – Syracuse volleyball plays its second match of the weekend and continues Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play in a 1 p.m. matchup against Duke on Sunday, Oct. 6. The Orange square off against the Blue Devils following a 3-1 loss to Wake Forest on Friday in its home opener to bring its record to 4-6 overall, 1-2 in conference play.

Syracuse is 4-5 all-time against Duke, having won the last three matchups between the teams. The Orange won last season in Durham, 3-1.

Syracuse opened their home schedule Friday night with a 3-1 loss to Wake Forest after nine matches on the road to begin the season. Despite the score being tied, 1-1, after two sets, errors plagued the Orange and the Demon Deacons took sets three and four. Junior Ella Saada led Syracuse with 21 digs, tying a career high that she posted in the previous match at Clemson.

Sophomore captain Polina Shemanova continued to be an impact player for the Orange, tallying 17 kills and a team-leading 12 kills. She leads the squad with 165 kills and 95 digs on the season. Â

Scouting the Blue Devils
Duke enters into the match with a 7-9 record and a 0-3 mark in ACC play. The Blue Devils fell to Boston College on Friday night in Chestnut Hill, 3-1. Sophomore Ade Owokoniran paced Duke with 13 kills and graduate student Lauren Cline added five blocks.

Owokoniran leads the side with 163 kills for an average of 3.59 per set, and Lily Cooper totals 59 blocks on the season, tied for fourth in the ACC. The Blue Devils average a .193 hitting percentage with 60 total aces. Owokoniran was named to the 2018 All-ACC Freshman team along with Syracuse's Polina Shemanova.

Duke finds itself on a three-match losing streak going into the match against Syracuse, and have lost seven of its last nine matches, including a 3-0 loss to #1 Stanford and a 3-1 defeat by #23 ranked ACC rival Florida State.

Syracuse continues its home stretch next weekend with conference matchups against Pittsburgh on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. All home matches are played in the SU Women's Building, and admission and parking to both matches are free. Both matches will be available for stream on ACC Network Extra.
