11/23/2019 2:29:00 PM | Cross Country
Redshirt sophomore Nathan Henderson and redshirt freshman Matthew Scrape each posted top-100 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, with the Syracuse men finishing in 27th as a team.
Henderson was the top finisher for the ACC Champion Orange, crossing the line in 31:49.4, which was 82nd on a cold and wet day in Terre Haute. Scrape crossed the line in 31:58.6, taking 97th.
Redshirt freshman Noah Beveridge finished in 178th in his first NCAA Championship appearance, finishing in 32:42.3. Junior Dominic Hockenbury (32:44.4) was three places behind him, while redshirt senior Kevin James (32:54.6) rounded out the 'Cuse scoring with a 193rd-place finish. Syracuse scored 610 points as a team.
Redshirt junior Joe Dragon (33:29.6) and redshirt freshman Nathan Lawler (33:55.7) also raced for the Orange.
Iowa State's Edwin Kurgat won the individual title, while BYU claimed the team championship with 109 points.
The meet closes out the cross country season for Syracuse, which returns the bulk of its young roster for 2020. Six of the seven NCAA competitors return for next season and Michael Phillips, who missed this season due to injury, Joey Eovaldi and Stephen Schulz from the team's ACC Championship roster, plus potentially Aidan Tooker – who was expected to be Syracuse's top runner before suffering a season-ending injury early on. 'Cuse also has a talented group of freshmen who redshirted in Kevin Robertson and Alex Comerford.
