
Gutsche, Tooker Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Chiara Gutsche (field hockey) and Aidan Tooker (men's track & field) are the Syracuse University Scholar Athletes of the Week.

Gutsche, a junior and native of Falkensee, Germany, is a psychology major in the College of Arts and Sciences. Gutsche was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in Spring 2019, as well as the 2018-19 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Honor Roll. The Orange field hockey squad was one of 76 Division one teams that earned Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Academic Team honors in 2018.

The midfielder has been a steady contributor for Ange Bradley's field hockey team for the past three seasons. Gutsche has played in 53 of 54 games in her first three seasons, scoring a goal and helping the Orange to a 32-22 record in that span, including two trips to the NCAA tournament.

Tooker, a senior from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., is majoring in communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Tooker is a two-time member of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team and a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. In six semesters at Syracuse, Tooker has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll six times.

Tooker is an NCAA First Team All-American for his personal best 3000m steeplechase event which he ran in 7:56.57, good for 10th at the Iowa State Classic in 2018. Â
