SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Jim Lister has been an intricate part in the Syracuse University women's rowing program the last five years, helping the Orange to three-straight NCAA Championship appearances and back-to-back runner up finishes at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship as an assistant coach. On Friday, Feb. 1, Lister accepted the position of head men's and women's rowing coach at nearby Hamilton College.
"For five years, I have been incredibly fortunate to work with an amazing group of women on the Syracuse Women's Rowing Team," Lister said. "Building a three-year NCAA qualifying team with Justin Moore, Alicea Kochis, Carman Faila, and Steve Sawyer has been one of the highlights of my career. With the additions of Head Coach Luke McGee and assistant coach Claire Kuehnel and the continuation of Associate Head Coach Alicia Kochis, I'm certain Syracuse Women's Rowing will go on to achieve many more accomplishments."
Lister has served as the international recruiting coordinator and director of boathouse operations at Syracuse.
"I wish the team continued success on their journey," Lister added. "Go Orange!"
In 2017, he coached the second varsity 8+ to Atlantic Coast Conference Boat of the Year honors, a first for the Orange since joining the ACC. Under his guidance, the Orange have climbed from No. 21 to as high as No. 13 in the national poll.
"We are incredibly excited for Jim and his great opportunity to be the next head coach of men's and women's rowing at Hamilton College," first year Syracuse Head Coach Luke McGee said. "Over the past five years, Jim has brought an enormous amount of passion to Syracuse University and our student-athletes. His excitement and commitment helped the team achieve a high level of success with three consecutive NCAA Championship bids. We will miss coaching alongside Jim but we wish him all the best as he takes on the next challenge in his career."
Lister takes over a Hamilton women's program that has finished top-10 in the NCAA Division III coaches' poll each of the last four seasons.
