#25 Orange Beat Louisville for First ACC Win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The No. 25 Syracuse women's tennis team earned its first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season on the road Friday evening, defeating Louisville (9-3), 6-1, at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville, Ky.Â
The Orange improve to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the ACC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
'Cuse got off to a hot start earning the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Sofya Golubovskaya and Maria Tritou cruised to a 6-2 win on court three over Chloe Hamlin and Aleksandra Mally. Senior Gabriela Knutson and junior Miranda Ramierez then ousted Louisville's Sena Suswam and Dina Chaika, 6-4, to secure the point. Â
The Orange rolled right into singles play winning all but one match. Raven Neely tied the dual match at 1-1 with a win on court four over Syracuse's Guzal Yusupova, 6-0, 6-2, but 42nd-ranked Knutson put 'Cuse ahead 2-1 overall with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court one.Â
No. 71 Ramirez earned a 6-3, 6-0 win on court two and Dina Hegab solidified the win with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court six. Libi Mesh and Tritou also secured singles wins in the Orange victory.
OF NOTE
The Orange won their first ACC match of the season as Knutson picked up two more victories bringing her career total to 164.Â
Syracuse is now 28-13 in singles play this year and 10-6 in doubles matches.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
'Cuse continues its four-match road stretch with a trip to South Bend, Ind., on Sunday. The Orange and Fighting Irish face off at 11 a.m.Â
Following the trip to South Bend, Syracuse travels to Georgia Tech for a road match against an ACC opponent Friday, March 3 before finishing the four-match stretch at FAU Sunday, March 5.
