NFL Combine Starts Today

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Two former Orange standouts are currently in Indianapolis for the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine. Defensive lineman Chris Slayton and wide receiver Jamal Custis are at Lucas Oil Stadium representing the Orange among this year's more than 300 Combine participants.Â
Orientation and interviews for Custis and the other wide receivers in attendance are today with on-field testing scheduled for Saturday. Slayton's activities begin tomorrow with on-field testing for the defensive linemen set for Sunday. The full schedule for the two is as follows:
Group 5/6 (QB/WR) – Jamal Custis
Wednesday, Feb. 27 – Registration, orientation and interviews
Thursday, Feb. 28 – Measurements, medical exams and interviews
Friday, March 1 – Bench press, media and psychological testing
Saturday, March 2 – On-field workouts
Group 7/8 (DL) – Chris Slayton
Thursday, Feb. 28 – Registration, orientation and interviews
Friday, March 1 – Measurements, medical exams and interviews

WR Jamal Custis
An All-ACC Second Team selection, Custis tallied 51 receptions for 906 yards with six touchdowns in 2018. He ranked fifth in the ACC with 69.7 receiving yards per game and averaged a team-high 17.8 yards per catch. Following the season, Custis was the recipient of the program's Bill Maxwell Award as the most improved player on offense. He was also invited to participate in the East-West Shrine Game. In 40 career games, Custis made 64 receptions for 1,048 yards (16.4 avg.) with eight touchdowns.
DL Chris Slayton
The University Park, Ill. native earned All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition as a senior captain in 2018. A three-year starter at defensive tackle, Slayton tallied 107 total tackles in 49 career games. His 32.5 career tackles for a loss ranks ninth on Syracuse's all-time list. Like Custis, Slayton played in the 2019 East-West Shrine Game.
