Both teams to be honored at halftime of the Johns Hopkins game
It's been 10 years since the 2009 Syracuse men's lacrosse squad became the 11th team in program history to win an NCAA Championship – doing so in thrilling fashion with one of the most memorable title game finishes ever.
They'll be honored on Saturday, March 9 when the current team hosts Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m. with a special halftime ceremony to commemorate their achievement. In addition, the 1969 'Cuse team will be celebrating their 50th anniversary as well.
The 2009 title game will forever be remembered for its late game dramatics. Trailing by three with less than four minutes to play, the Orange scored the game's final-four goals at Gillette Stadium to cap off a 16-2 season with another trophy for the program.
Matt Abbott, Kenny Nims, Sid Smith, Stephen Keogh, Dan Hardy, Joel White and John Lade would earn All-America honors for the Orange that season.
The 1969 squad was one of the best Orange teams of its generation, tallying an 11-3 record and became the first Syracuse team with double-digit wins in 12 years. The team was led by All-American Jeff Davis as well as a host of great Syracuse lacrosse alums in Cliff Ensley, Tony Lapi, Leo Nolan and Alan Brown, among others.
Syracuse and Johns Hopkins, the sport's most storied storied programs, will renew their rivalry on March 9. Tickets to watch the latest installment of the series and honor the two returning teams can be purchased at Cuse.com/Tickets, by calling 888-DOME-TIX, or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office.
