Orange to Face Pitt in ACC Tourney Opener

CHARLOTTE -- Syracuse's ACC Tournament second-round match up is set as the Orange will face Pittsburgh on Wednesday, March 13. The game is scheduled to tip off at 9 p.m. in the final game of the day at the Spectrum Center.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and on Raycom Sports (click here for affiliates). Fans can also watch the action on theacc.com and on the ACC app or listen to the broadcast on the Syracuse Sports Network from Learfield College.

ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse comes into the ACC Tournament with a record of 19-12. The Orange are the No. 6 seed in the tournament after posting a 10-8 league record.

All-ACC honoree Tyus Battle leads Syracuse's offense, averaging 17.2 points per game. Redshirt junior Elijah Hughes adds 13.4 points per game and is the Orange's biggest threat from behind the arc as he has a team-best 75 3-pointers this season. Sophomore Oshae Brissett leads the team and ranks 11th in the ACC in rebounds, pulling down 7.5 per contest. In addition, senior Frank Howard leads the team in assists (79), while senior Paschal Chukwu has blocked a team-high 51 shots.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Pittsburgh advanced to the ACC Tournament second round by defeating Boston College, 80-70, on Tuesday. The Panthers, the No. 14 seed in the tournament, improved their record to 14-18 with the win.

Trey McGowens, who is one of three players who average double digits in points for Pitt, scored a team-high 26 points against Boston College. The Panthers' leading scorer, Xavier Johnson, added 23 points in the victory against the Eagles.

Jeff Capel is in his first season at the helm of the Pittsburgh program. The Duke grad previously had head coaching stints at VCU and Oklahoma and spent many years as an assistant coach at his alma mater.

THE SERIES
Syracuse's win at Pittsburgh on Feb. 2 increased its lead in the all-time series to 70-45. Brissett recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Orange to a 65-56 victory at the Petersen Events Center. Howard added 15 points, while Chukwu had 10 points.

The winner of the Syracuse-Pittsburgh contest advances to the quarterfinals where it will meet No 3 seed Duke on Thursday at 9 p.m.
