
Boston College Surpasses Orange, 4-3

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – An RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference maker as Boston College (10-15, 1-3 ACC) walked-off, 4-3, against Syracuse (9-17, 1-3 ACC) Friday night in the opening match of the three-game series. The series continues with a 1 p.m. matchup tomorrow.
The Orange struck first with three-runs in the top of the second. Toni Martin hit a leadoff single to center field before back-to-back groundouts moved her to third. In her first plate appearance of the season, Miranda Hearn drew a walk to keep the inning alive. A single by Lailoni Mayfield scored Martin for a 1-0 Syracuse lead. Gabby Teran reached on an error, loading the bases, before Alicia Hansen drilled a two-RBI single through the right side.
Boston College wasted no time erasing Syracuse's lead in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles led off with a walk before a double to center field left runners at second and third. After loading the bases, a single and sac fly tied the game, 3-3.
Lights out pitching through the next four innings limited both teams to a combined three hits, entering the seventh inning tied, 3-3. With two outs 'Cuse loaded the bases followed two walks and a hit by pitch, but the Orange could not find a way to plate a run.
The Eagles took their only lead of the game with its walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh following a leadoff walk and back-to-back singles.
Alexa Romero (5-5) threw the complete game for Syracuse, allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and five walks. Hansen led 'Cuse at the plate, going 2-of-3 with two RBIs and one walk.
