BOSTON – The Syracuse University softball team continues Atlantic Coast Conference action with a three-game road series at Boston College on March 22-24. Syracuse (9-16, 1-2 ACC) is coming off a 1-2 weekend to open ACC play, but saw flashes of success in its 4-2, eight-inning win over Louisville on Sunday. The Orange were led by Alexa Romero who threw all eight innings on her way to eight strikeouts. 'Cuse held the Cardinals scoreless through the first four innings while taking a 1-0 lead. Syracuse tacked on a run, while Louisville added two that tied the game at 2-2 after seven. Back-to-back doubles in the eighth inning was all the Orange needed as a third hit of the frame put the Orange ahead 4-2 for their first ACC victory of the season.
The win marked the first for the Orange at Louisville since 2016 and the fourth all-time at Ulmer Stadium.
After being swept by North Carolina last weekend, Boston College (8-15, 0-3 ACC) split a pair of midweek games against Quinnipiac and Providence. The Eagles took an 8-0 victory over Quinnipiac on Tuesday before falling, 0-1, against Providence Wednesday evening. Freshman Gianna Boccagno highlighted the Tuesday night victory with her first career grand slam. Boccagno leads the Eagles with a team-best six home runs while senior Lexi DiEmmanuele has a team-best .366 batting average. Boston College leads the ACC with 0.50 double plays per game, a mark that ranks 24th nationally.
Following the three-game series, the Orange return to Syracuse where they will host Niagara for a doubleheader on March 27 at 4 p.m. Following its home opener, 'Cuse welcomes Notre Dame to town for a three-game series, March 29-31.
