BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's hockey team took home a bevy of honors for the 2018-19 season during College Hockey America's Awards Banquet Tuesday night.
Freshman forward Lauren Bellefontaine was named CHA Rookie of the Year, while senior defenseman Allie Munroe was named the conference's Best Defenseman. Munroe also earned a spot on the All-CHA First Team, while sophomore forward Emma Polaski landed on the All-CHA Second Team.
Bellefontaine and freshman forward Abby Moloughney, meanwhile, were named to the conference's All-Rookie Team.
Bellefontaine, who hails from Kemptville, Ont., is the third Syracuse student-athlete in program history to win the conference's top rookie honor. She joins Isabel Menard (2009-10) and Stephanie Grossi (2014-15).
The freshman forward logged 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists) in the regular season and claimed the conference's Rookie of the Month award three times. She scored a career-high two goals and carded a career-best three points in a 6-3 win at Lindenwood last October.
Munroe, the Orange's co-captain, captured the conference's Best Defenseman award for the second time in her career, having also done so as a sophomore in 2016-17. She led the team in points with 24 (4 goals, 20 assists) in the regular season, and she currently sits second in program history in all-time points by a defenseman.
Munroe, who is first in school history in all-time goals scored by a defenseman, landed on the conference's First Team for the second time in her career. The native of Yarmouth, N.S., also did so in 2016-17 and was a member of the All-CHA Second Team in 2017-18.
Polaski, the Orange's leading scorer with 11 goals, earned a spot on the conference's Second Team. The sophomore from Morristown, N.J., carded the second-most points (21) on the Orange and was named the conference's Player of the Week twice during the season.
Bellefontaine and Moloughney, who led all Orange freshmen skaters in goals (8) and points (18), both made the All-Rookie Team. They are the first Orange duo to earn spots on the conference's top rookies squad since Savannah Rennie and Lindsay Eastwood (2016-17).
In addition, Moloughney was named Rookie of the Month for February. She had a team-high eight points, including a team-leading four goals, in six games in the month.
The four award winners and the rest of the Orange are in action at the 2019 CHA Tournament tomorrow afternoon. Syracuse faces Lindenwood in the quarterfinals, and the puck is scheduled to drop at 4:30 p.m. inside the Harborcenter.
Tickets are $10 per day for adults and $5 for students. Adults can also purchase a full tournament pass for $25. All games will be streamed on the CHA Digital Network.
