
Ramirez, Barni Named Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Women tennis' Miranda Ramirez and men's rowing's Matthew Barni are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week.
Ramirez, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, is majoring in accounting in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. Ranked nationally in both singles (No. 100) and doubles (No. 56), Ramirez finished the regular season with a team-high 16 overall wins in singles play. She has played primarily out of the No. 3 position in singles, where she owns a 10-4 overall record this spring.
Barni, a senior from Willoughby Hills, Ohio, is a mechanical engineering major in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. He sat in the six seat of the Orange's varsity eight that is ranked No. 9 in the country. Barni helped guide Syracuse to a 10-second victory over Wisconsin in the season opener.
Ramirez and the 31st-ranked women's tennis team completed their regular season Sunday. They enter the 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Championship as the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 Georgia Tech in the second round at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in Cary, North Carolina.
Barni and the men's rowing team, meanwhile, return to action in Annapolis, Maryland, this weekend. The Orange will compete for the Goes Trophy Saturday, April 20, when they row against Cornell and Navy.
