HOW IT HAPPENED
While Syracuse dropped the doubles point to begin the match, the 56th-ranked pair of Knutson and junior Miranda Ramirez did its part to keep things competitive. The Orange's top duo defeated Georgia Tech's No. 1 doubles pair by the score of 6-3.
Trailing 1-0 entering singles play, the Orange mounted their comeback thanks to strong performances on courts one, two and three. No. 97 Ramirez and Goluovskaya each won in straight sets, and Knutson knocked off eighth-ranked Kenya Jones in three sets - 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-3.
Ultimately, it was senior Dina Hegab who clinched the victory for Syracuse. With the match tied at three apiece, Hegab pulled out a three-set victory - 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 - on court six to seal the win and punch the Orange's ticket to the quarterfinal round.
