VESTAL, N.Y. – Back-to-back home runs from Neli Casares-Maher and Hannah Dossett in a five-run third inning helped push Syracuse to a 14-0, five-inning, victory against Binghamton Tuesday evening. It marked the first time the Orange have hit consecutive homers since April 13, 2016.
Six different players recorded hits for Syracuse (20-25) including three from both Alicia Hansen and Bryce Holmgren. Hansen raked in three RBIs with three runs scored while Holmgren hit a career-high two doubles with two runs scored. Casares-Maher concluded her day with a pair of home runs and a career-high six RBIs.
Miranda Hearn recorded her first career complete game shutout as she took her second win of the season. Hearn (2-6) pitched all five innings, allowing three hits and five walks while tying a career-high six strikeouts.
'Cuse took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning following a leadoff single from Gabby Teran. Teran moved to third on a Binghamton error before a triple by Hansen scored her. A sac fly from Lailoni Mayfield tacked on an additional run in the inning.
The Orange's offense didn't slow down as Teran drew a leadoff walk in the third inning. Hansen laid down a sac bunt, but was safe at first on a Binghamton throwing error that also pushed Teran to third. A double steal of second and home put the Orange up 3-0. After Alex Acevedo reached on a hit by pitch, Casares-Maher and Dossett blasted their home runs for a 7-0 lead.
The scoring effort continued with another five runs in the top of the fourth including an RBI-single from Hansen and a Casares-Maher's second home run, which scored three. A hit by pitch to Teran sandwiched a pair of doubles from Hansen and Holmgren in the fifth inning to help close out the offensive heavy day.
Binghamton (15-25) took a pair of walks in the bottom of the first but could not advance either runner. Hearn did not give up a hit through her first two and a half innings pitched. The Bearcats drew five walks but were able to muster just three hits on the day, leaving eight runners on base.
