SYRACUSE, NY – Syracuse and Georgetown have agreed to begin a four-game men's basketball series starting on Saturday, December 14, with the Orange playing the Hoyas at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The series will continue for the next three seasons with games in the Carrier Dome in 2020-21 and 2022-23 and another contest at the Capital One Arena in 2021-22. Dates will be determined at a later time.
The long-time standing rivalry dates back to the 1929-30 season when the two programs first met. The level of competition between Syracuse and Georgetown was raised when the two schools owned membership in the BIG EAST Conference. Syracuse joined the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2013-14 season while Georgetown remains in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse leads the all-time series, 51-43. The two programs most recently squared off in the Dome on Dec. 8, 2018, when the Orange claimed a 72-71 victory.
The Orange are coming off a 20-14 campaign that included an NCAA Tournament berth. Hall of Fame Coach Jim Boeheim is completing his 43rd season at the helm of his alma mater.
Georgetown was 19-14 and competed in the NIT. Former Hoya All-American at NBA All-Star Patrick Ewing is in his second campaign leading the Georgetown program.
