SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Women lacrosse's Cara Quimby and track & field's Iliass Aouani are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week.
Quimby, a redshirt junior from Schenectady, N.Y., is majoring in health and exercise science in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. She has eight goals and one assist in 15 games this season, scoring the game-winning tally in the Orange's season-opening win over UConn. She also carded two goals in the 16-11 victory versus then-No. 7 Virginia, helping to lead Syracuse to its second win over a top-10 team this season.
Aouani, who hails from Milan, Italy, is a civil engineering major in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The senior dazzled at the Stanford Invitational two weekends ago, turning in a record-breaking performance in the 10k. He finished with a time of 28:25.36 to set both a Syracuse and Atlantic Coast Conference record. He earned ACC Performer of the Week honors for his effort.
Quimby and the third-ranked Syracuse women's lacrosse team head to North Carolina for their final road game of the regular season. The action between the Orange and Tar Heels begins at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 13.
Aouani and the Orange, meanwhile, compete at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational this weekend in Coral Gables, Fla. The meet begins Friday, April 12 and concludes Saturday, April 13.
