
Stoner, Aouani Win 5,000-Meter ACC Titles

Paige Stoner and Iliass Aouani became the first Syracuse pair to win the women's and men's 5000-meter Atlantic Coast Conference titles in the same year Saturday afternoon at the 2019 ACC Championships. Aouani recorded a personal best time of 14:00.38, while Stoner finished with a time of 16:05.83, nearly two seconds ahead of the next closest finisher. Â

It is the second title of the weekend for both Stoner and Aouani after Stoner took her second-consecutive title in the 3000-meter steeplechase yesterday afternoon. Aouani won the 10,000-meters on Thursday night. Â

Stoner becomes the first female Syracuse runner to earn a pair of ACC titles in the same year and is the Orange's first female winner in the 5,000-meter. Aouani joins Justyn Knight and Martin Hehir as the only Syracuse men to win ACC 5000-meter titles.

After finishing second in the 3000-meter steeplechase yesterday, Laura Dickinson also backed it up with a strong outing in the 5000-meter. Dickinson finished fourth with a time of 16:08.66 while Rachel Bonner wracked up a top-15 finish with a time of 16:29.44 to come in 13th.

Joe Dragon, Matthew Scrape, Michael Phillips and Kevin James contributed to the strong contingent for the Orange in the men's 5000-meter. Dragon finished ninth with a time of 14:16.02 followed by Scrape's time of 14:20.73 which was good for a 13th-place finish. Phillips and James rounded out the top-25, taking 18th and 21st, respectively.

Richard Floyd took All-ACC honors following a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.07. Chevis Armstead II finished with a time of 14.38 in seventh-place. Nathan Henderson ran in the 1500-meter final finishing in 3:53.97, which placed him in 11th.

The Orange women's 4x100 relay rounded out the day taking sixth with a time of 45.17 with a school-record time and Avianna Goode placed 7th in the high jump.
Syracuse looks toward the NCAA East Preliminary on May 23-25 in Jacksonville, Fla.
