
Boeheim, Lee Earn Upstate NY Basketball Hall Induction

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Legendary Syracuse basketball stars Jim Boeheim and Jim Lee are among 17 individuals who will be inducted into the Class of 2019 of the Upstate New York Basketball Hall of Fame. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, at the Hilton Hotel in Troy, N.Y. The reception begins at 4 p.m. and the ceremony starts at 5 p.m.
Joining the two Syracuse standouts in the Class of 2019 are: Steve Babiarz (Potsdam), Talor Battle (Penn State), Roosevelt Bullock (Potsdam), Eric Cooper (Rice), Fred Daniels (Siena), Buddy Evans (Rome Free Academy), Tom Healy (Lehigh/Saratoga), Derek Johnson (Albany/Virginia Union), Elander Lewis (Albany/VCU), Steven Mulderry (Albany), Tim Parker (Saratoga), Pete Philo (Saratoga/NBA Scout), Tim Rossi (referee), Doug Sherman (TV), and Dan Terwilliger (Niskayuna/Siena).
Boeheim, an all-state performer at Lyons Central High School, played at Syracuse from 1963-1966. He was a two-year starter for the Orange and a member of the 1965-66 squad that was 22-6 and earned an NCAA Tournament berth. He joined the Syracuse coaching staff in 1969 and was named head coach in 1976. Boeheim, who was inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006, recently finished his 43 season in charge of the Syracuse program. He has guided the Orange into the NCAA Tournament 34 times and his clubs have reached the Final Four on five ocassions. Syracuse won the 2003 NCAA Championship.
Lee averaged 13.4 points per game over three varsity seasons with the Orange. A career 1,000-point scorer, Lee still ranks third in career free-throw percentage (.859) at Syracuse. The Orange earned NCAA Tournament berths in each of this three campaigns and advanced to the program's first Final Four in 1975-75. Lee was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team that year. He was inducted into the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
Craig Forth, as starter on Syracuse's 2003 NCAA Championship squad, will induct Coach Boeheim.
