#9 Orange Seek another Top-10 Finish at IRA Championships this Weekend

Sacramento, Calif. – The ninth-ranked Syracuse University men's rowing team is synonymous with the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships, which begin Friday, May 31 at the Sacramento Aquatic Center in Sacramento, Calif. The Orange have won six national championships and Syracuse's Onondaga Lake was home to the annual regatta from 1952-92 and once more in 1994.
In recent years, Syracuse's varsity eight has finished in the top-10 seven times during head coach Dave Reischman's tenure. On Friday, 'Cuse looks to add another.
"Coming into big races we try to keep things pretty simple and really just focus on our ability to execute our rhythm and leave every last bit of energy we have on the course," Reischman said. "If we do that, we will be happy with whatever result we get."
The action begins Friday where the varsity eight will line up with Yale, Boston University, Penn, Wisconsin and Santa Clara in Heat 1 of the preliminary. Race time is set for 11:20 a.m. ET.
The 2V8+ is seeded in Heat 2 of the prelims, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET, while the 3V8+ is seeded in Heat 3 of their respective prelim races set to begin at 1:30 p.m. ET.
The final Orange boat, the varsity four, will race with Marist, BU, Princeton and Drexel in Heat 4 at 2:40 p.m. ET.
It will be the final regatta for Syracuse's senior class, which helped build Syracuse until a perennial automatic qualifier for the IRA Championship.
"It has certainly helped to have five seniors with a lot of experience in our varsity boat this spring," Reischman said. "They have seen a lot over their time here and I think that just adds to their confidence that we can handle anything that gets thrown at us on the race course. It also helps to steady the younger guys when there are a couple of rough practices or things aren't exactly going perfectly. They will certainly missed this next year."
Fans unable to make the trip to the west coast can watch live online.
