SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Members of the 2018 Orange football team received a pleasant surprise from head coach Dino Babers this morning – their Camping World Bowl championship rings!
Babers handed out the rings to players, coaches and staff during a team meeting on Saturday at the Iocolano-Petty Football Complex. The ring commemorates Syracuse's 2018 campaign, which was capped by a 34-18 Camping World Bowl victory over West Virginia.
Designed exclusively for the Orange by Jostens, the rings feature the Syracuse Block "S" logo and 22 signature stones. One side has the 2018 Camping World Bowl logo and the score of the game. The opposite side features the individual's name, position, a Syracuse football helmet and "10-3" in reference to the team's overall record.
Inscribed on the inside of the ring is the program's mantra "Family, La Familia, 'Ohana" and the Orange's No. 15 final national ranking.
"It's awesome, man. All the guys were excited. It's a great feeling to get them and they look real nice," running back Moe Neal said.
Neal added that he and his teammates understand last year's success is only the first step. The goal now is to build upon those achievements.
"We know what it takes" Neal said. "Like Coach [Babers] just said it's about being consistently good, not occasionally great. We just have to keep working, have everybody buy in, and keep playing together."
Final exams for the spring semester end next week. After a short break, the Orange will begin summer conditioning in preparation for the 2019 season. Syracuse opens the campaign on Saturday, August 31 at Liberty and hosts reigning national champion Clemson on Sept. 14 in its home opener.
Season tickets, group tickets, partial plans and single-game tickets for the Orange's six 2019 home dates are on sale now. They can be purchased online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). Season tickets start at $125.
