
Five 'Cuse Alums to Participate in Pro Lacrosse All-Star Games

The number of Orange starring in professional lacrosse is as high as ever, with five 'Cuse alums earning All-Star Game nods across both leagues, including the most selections of any college in the MLL.
Midfielder Sergio Salcido (Redwoods) will represent the Orange in the inaugural PLL All-Star Game, while veteran midfielder Matt Abbott (Chesapeake) who is in his 11th season in the league, midfielder Brendan Bomberry (Chesapeake), midfielder Nick Mariano (Chesapeake), and attackman Randy Staats (Atlanta), will play in the MLL All-Star Game.
Abbott, a 2009 graduate from Syracuse, finished his career with back-to-back NCAA Championships and was selected as a two-time All-American. During his tenure, Abbott also accumulated 212 ground balls, which ranks him ninth on SU's career ground balls list. He has five points and six ground balls for the Bayhawks so far this year.
Bomberry graduated in 2018, finishing his senior season leading the Orange with 28 goals and finishing 21st nationally in shot percentage of .452. Bomberry was named a Tewaaraton Award Watch List member. He competed in the 2018 FIL World Championships, winning bronze with the Iroquois Nationals. He's tallied six goals this season in five games.
Mariano is playing in his first season with the Bayhawks. During his senior season in 2017, Mariano received USILA First Team All-America honors, was an All-ACC selection, and Tewaaraton Award Semifinalist. Mariano also the Orange in goal scoring his junior and senior seasons with 34 and 35 respectively. He has nine goals in five games this season.
A Fellow 2017 graduate, Salcido has had a strong first half for the second-place Redwoods. In his senior season, Salcido was named a USILA First Team All-American and ACC Offensive Player of the Year. In the 2017 season, Salcido also led the team with 51 season points, including a team best 33 assists.
Staats graduated from Syracuse in 2015, joining the team in 2014 after attending Onondaga Community College for his first two years. Staats was a Tewaaraton Award nominee in 2014 and 2015 USILA Honorable Mention All-American. During his tenure at OCC, Staats earned Two-time NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-American. He currently leads the MLL with 13 assists and is fifth in points with 23.
The MLL 2019 All-Star game will be held on Saturday, July 27 at the Navy-Marine Corps Veteran Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. The PLL 2019 All-Star game is set to be played in Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, July 21 at the Ban of California Stadium.
