Camp Notebook: Week 1
8/11/2019 9:07:00 AM | Football
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange football team wrapped up its first full week of training camp on Saturday. With seven practices and one scrimmage under its belt, Syracuse is approaching the halfway mark of its preseason. The team will hold 10 more practices and another scrimmage before officially turning the page to preparation for the Aug. 31 opener at Liberty.
DEFENSE GETTING IT DONE
As is not uncommon this time of year, the Syracuse defense is slightly ahead of the offense. That was evidenced by the group's performance in yesterday's 144-play scrimmage. The unit registered seven sacks, one safety, one interception and only surrendered five touchdowns during the 90-minute session. Linebacker Juan Wallace led the way with two sacks.
Offensively, three of the offense's touchdowns were rushing scores, including two by Abdul Adams.

BABERS MAKES SPECIAL HOMECOMING
The only thing that can keep Dino Babers away from football is family. Last weekend, Babers missed the start of preseason camp to attend his mother Patsy Ann's surprise 80th birthday party in California. The Orange head coach asked for permission from the team to be there for the celebration. It was the first time in 40 years Babers was able to wish his mother a happy birthday in person.
