SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange football team is No. 22 in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 poll, released today by the wire service. This season marks the first time since 1998 that Syracuse, which is also No. 22 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll, will open the year as a nationally-ranked team.
Â
Syracuse earned 209 points in the AP rankings to claim the spot between No. 21 Iowa State (302 points) and No. 23 Washington State (200). The Orange are one of two Atlantic Coast Conferences teams in the poll. The other is defending national champion Clemson, which starts the year at No. 1.
Â
During the 1998 season, which was star quarterback Donovan McNabb's senior year, the Orange opened at No. 17 in the AP Top 25 and No. 14 in the coaches rankings.
Â
Led by fourth-year head coach Dino Babers, Syracuse returns 17 starters from last year's 10-3 squad that finished the season No. 15 in the country.
Â
The Orange start the 2019 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Liberty. The home opener is set for Sept. 14 versus Clemson.
Â
Season and single-game tickets for Syracuse football are on sale now online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) and in person at the Dome Box Office located in the Ensley Athletic Center. Season tickets start at $125.
Â
Syracuse's single-game ticket allotment for the Clemson game is sold out. The only way to guarantee a seat to watch the Orange and Tigers is through the purchase of a season ticket.
