Syracuse, N.Y – The 23rd-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team (3-1) returns home and looks to get back on track against No. 14 Saint Joseph's University (3-0) on Friday, Sept 13, at 6 p.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Last season, Saint Joseph's stunned 'Cuse 5-2.
The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra, but fans can only watch the stream if their cable provider carries the ACC Network. Fans unsure if their provider carries ACCN are strongly encouraged to visit GetACCN.com.
'Cuse comes into the match looking to recover after their tough 2-1 loss to Cornell last Saturday. Freshmen standout Charlotte de Vries leads the Orange in points (11), shots (15), and goals (5). Junior Carolin Hoffmann trails closely behind de Vries, with six shots. The Hawks are the first ranked opponent Syracuse will face this season. 'Cuse is averaging 15.2 shots per game and has taken 34 penalty corners this season, 11 more than the opposition.
Â
Saint Joseph's is fresh off a 2-1 win over No. 19 Rutgers. The Hawks are led by sophomore Forward Tonya Botherway who has three goals and six points. As a unit, the team averages 18.3 shots and 5.0 goals per game. Saint Joseph's high offense has outscored opponents 15-3 this season and are outshooting opponents 18-3.
Â
Friday will be the third regular-season meeting in program history but there will be familiarity on the sidelines. Hawks head coach Lynn Farquhar served on Syracuse's staff as the associate head coach for four seasons including the 2008 Final Four run. She first linked up with Syracuse head coach Ange Bradley when Bradley was the head coach at Richmond. Â Farquahr has loaded her staff with Syracuse hockey alumna including Martu Loncarica '12 and Liz Sack '17. Sack helped guide Syracuse to the 2015 National Championship, the first for any female team at 'Cuse.
Â
Following Friday's match, the Orange hit the road to face Bucknell in a Sunday afternoon matchup on Sept. 15 at 12 p.m.
