GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse redshirt senior punter Sterling Hofrichter was voted the Atlantic Coast Conference Specialist of the Week on Monday, Sept. 16 for his performance in the Orange's home opener last Saturday night against top-ranked Clemson. Hofrichter averaged 52.2 yards on nine punts against the Tigers, the fourth-highest, single-game average in team history for a player with a minimum of three punts.
Â
Hofrichter hit a career-best six punts that traveled at least 50 yards, including matching his career long with a 65-yard boot. Additionally, he averaged 51.9 net yards per kick, as only two of his punts were returned for a total of three yards. Three ended up inside the Clemson 20-yard line and five resulted in fair catches.
Â
Thanks in large part to Hofrichter's work this season, Syracuse currently ranks fourth in the FBS in team net punting average (46.8).
Â
Hofrichter and the Orange return to action Saturday, Sept. 21 when they host Western Michigan at the Dome. Kickoff between the Orange and Broncos is scheduled for noon on ACC Network.
Â
Saturday is Military Appreciation Day, presented by SEFCU, and multiple recognitions of our nation's servicemen and women are planned. Active military personnel, veterans, and their families who qualify are eligible for complimentary tickets to the game through the "Cuse for the Troops" ticket program.
