AUGUSTA, Ga. – After a standout performance against Clemson, Syracuse redshirt senior punter Sterling Hofrichter was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week by the Augusta Sports Council on Tuesday, Sept. 17. It's the first time in his career that Hofrichter has earned national punter of the week honors.
Â
A member of this week's "Ray's 8," Hofrichter was selected from a group that also included Penn State's Blake Gillikin, Georgia State's Brandon Wright, Houston's Dane Roy, Pittsburgh's Kirk Christodoulou, Virginia Tech's Oscar Bradburn, Navy's Owen White and Colorado State's Ryan Stonehouse.
Â
Hofrichter, who was voted the ACC Specialist of the Week yesterday, punted nine times against the Tigers for 470 yards. His average of 52.2 yards per kick was the best mark in team history for a player with more than five punts.
Â
Hofrichter hit a career-best six punts that traveled at least 50 yards, including matching his career long with a 65-yard boot. Additionally, he averaged 51.9 net yards per kick, as only two of his punts were returned for a total of three yards. Three of his punts ended up inside the Clemson 20-yard line and five resulted in fair catches.
Â
Thanks in large part to Hofrichter's work this season, Syracuse currently ranks fourth in the FBS in team net punting average (46.8).
Â
Hofrichter and the Orange return to action Saturday, Sept. 21 when they host Western Michigan at the Dome. Kickoff between the Orange and Broncos is scheduled for noon on ACC Network.
Â
Saturday is Military Appreciation Day, presented by SEFCU, and multiple recognitions of our nation's servicemen and women are planned. Active military personnel, veterans, and their families who qualify are eligible for complimentary tickets to the game through the "Cuse for the Troops" ticket program. To receive complimentary tickets, military members should sign up at Cuse.com/military. Tickets for military personnel are $10 the day of the game.
Â
Season tickets for Syracuse's five remaining home games, including Western Michigan, start at $125. They are on sale now online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) and at the Dome Box Office located in the Ensley Athletic Center. Single-game tickets to watch the Orange and Broncos start at $25.
