
Allen, Cooney Named Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Syracuse football player Nolan Cooney and women's soccer player Georgia Allen are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 23.

Cooney is a senior sport management major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. The East Greenwich, R.I. native is a five-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and a three time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Honor Roll selection. Cooney was also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2017-18. The fourth-year placekicker and punter has appeared in every game for the Orange since the start of 2018 as the holder for PATs and field goals for All-America kicker and Lou Groza Award winner Andre Szymt.

Allen, a native of Suffolk, England, is a senior psychology major in the College of Arts and Sciences. First year head women's soccer coach Nicky Adams chose the midfielder to be one of her captains for the 2019 season. Allen has started 28 matches for the Orange since the beginning of the 2017 season, scoring four goals.

This is the first Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors for both Cooney and Allen.

Cooney and Syracuse football (2-2) host their third consecutive game this weekend as Patriot League opponent Holy Cross comes to the Dome on Saturday at noon. The game will be televised on ACC Network.

Allen and the women's soccer team (2-4-2) host two ACC contests this week at SU Soccer Stadium, first on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Louisville and on Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Florida State. Admission to the games are free and can be watched on ACC Network Extra.
