Yusupova, Ramirez Reach Doubles Final in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - The senior duo of Guzal Yusupova and Miranda Ramirez represented Syracuse well this past weekend. The pair battled through three days of competition before reaching the doubles final of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Monday, Sept. 23, taking on pairs from Lipscomb, Nebraska, LSU, USC, and Oklahoma over the course of the three-day tournament. Yusupova also had a deep run in singles competition, earning two victories, while Ramirez earned one.

The Orange opened the tournament with a 8-5 doubles victory over Lipscomb's Denise Buberl and Kate Popova. Yusupova and Ramirez then defeated the Cornhuskers, 9-8, in the second round to keep their tournament hopes alive. The pair then took down LSU, 8-6, and swept USC, 8-0, before their run concluded at the hands of the Sooners in the championship match in an 8-6 loss.

The two also recorded impressive singles scores during the tournament. Yusupova opened with a bye before taking down Florida Atlantic's Radka Buzkova, 4-6, 7-5-, 6-4. She then swept Julie Bryne of Northwestern, 7-5, 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinals where she ultimately lost in straight sets to USC's Angela Kulikov.

Ramirez opened with a 6-2, 6-3 sweep of Michigan State's Dagmar Zdrubecka before getting bumped by Laura Bente of Memphis.
