
Treshcheva Takes Singles Title at West Point Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Sophomore Sofya Treshcheva is bringing a singles crown back to Syracuse after sweeping the "A" Singles draw of Army's West Point Invitational this weekend. Competing Sept. 27-29 in West Point, N.Y., Treshcheva, junior Sofya Golubovskaya, and freshman Kim Hansen won 13 total matches between singles and doubles competition, with the doubles pairing of Treshcheva/Hansen advancing to the finals of the "A" doubles.Â

The Orange trio all took at least two singles match victories and combined for four two-set sweeps. Treshcheva's title run featured wins over players from the Air Force Academy, Rutgers, Seton Hall, and Drexel.

Treshcheva and Hansen's "A" Doubles run ended in the final after the duo were forced to retire due to an injury in the group. The two took down pairings from the Air Force Academy, Fairleigh Dickinson, Army and Rutgers before retiring to Fordham's Valeriya Deminova and Avery Aude.

The Orange will regroup before heading to the Riviera ITA All Americans Champions. Competition runs Oct. 5-13 in Tulsa, Okla.
