
'Cuse to Honor 1989 Championship Squad on Alumni Weekend

The 1989 Syracuse men's lacrosse team, one of the greatest teams to take the field, will be honored at the Orange Alumni Classic on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The 1989 squad won 14-straight games to conclude the season, including a 13-12 win in the NCAA title game vs. Johns Hopkins. The '89 squad had nine All-Americans and four players and legendary coach Roy Simmons Jr. would all go on to be inducted into the Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Gary and Paul Gait, Pat McCabe and Tom Marechek have all since been enshrined in the hall. The Upstate Chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame is also filled with members of that team, including captains Steve Scaramuzzino and John Zulberti, Simmons Jr., Gary Gait, Matt Palumb, Greg Burns and assistant coaches John Desko and Kevin Donahue.
The '89 Orange squad won the second of three-consecutive NCAA titles and lost just one game in the stretch, stringing together one of the sport's most dominant runs ever. Gary Gait, Paul Gait, McCabe, Zulberti, Marechek, Scaramuzzino, Burns, Mark Stopher and Phil Schluter all earned All-America accolades that season.
The 1989 team will be part of a weekend long alumni celebration, which features an intra-squad scrimmage and alumni classic game on Oct. 19 in the Dome, culminates a weekend long celebration of the program and its alumni.

FAN INFORMATION
'Cuse fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2020 squad in action on Saturday, Oct. 19. First, they'll be treated to watching the Orange greats of past play in the Alumni Legends Classic at Noon. Immediately following at 2 p.m., the 2020 Orange team will be divided into two teams and will square off in a full scrimmage.
Gates to the Dome open at 11 a.m. and parking is free in the Stadium Lot. For an admission price of $10 at the gate, fans can see both games.
