SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The women's soccer game against Louisville originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26th will be played on Friday, Sept. 27th at 10 am due to an illness that has affected multiple Louisville student-athletes.
Coach Nicky Adams' women's soccer team returns to the SU Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 27 to host #22 Louisville in the first ACC home matchup of the season. Kickoff between Syracuse (2-4-2, 0-0-1 ACC) and the Cardinals (7-1, 0-0 ACC) is set for 10 a.m., and the contest will be shown on ACC Network Extra. Parking and admission are free.
"Friday is going to be a very, very tough game with Louisville coming off their first loss all season," Adams said. "Louisville is one of those teams that applies a high pressure attack and likes to score goals. We're definitely going to have to be at our best defensively and we'll be looking to take advantage of Louisville in transition."
Last Time Out
'Cuse opened conference play with a 1-1 tie against Pitt on Friday. Senior Taylor Bennett buried a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to tie the game and record her second PK goal of the season. Syracuse junior goalie Lysianne Proulx made four saves in overtime to keep the score knotted at one before the final whistle blew.
Series History
The Cardinals lead the all-time series 5-0-1, with the previous three matches being close battles between SU and the Cards that ultimately resulted in 1-0 defeats for Syracuse. The two programs last met a year ago in week three of the conference season in Louisville, Ky. where the score was an even 0-0 until the Cardinals' Brooklynn Rivers capitalized on a low cross in the final 10 seconds of regulation.
Shot Stopper
Proulx has been between the sticks in every Orange contest this year and has an ACC-best 40 saves on the season heading into Friday morning. Proulx averages a league-best 5.00 saves per game, and her 10 saves at Auburn on Sept. 5 are the most an ACC goalkeeper has recorded in a single game this year. Thanks to Proulx' efforts, Syracuse hasn't lost a single game at home this season.
Scouting the Cardinals
Louisville opened the season with seven-straight victories before the team was finally bested by UNC last Saturday, losing 3-0 at home. The Cardinals' 2-1 victory against Ohio State on Aug. 22 is the only road match the team has played this season.
The Louisville offense is led by Emina Ekic who leads the team in goals (4), assists (4) and shots (28). In net, Gabby Kouzelos has started every game, holds a 0.56 GAA and .789 save percentage, and has made 15 saves.
The Cardinals finished with a 12-7 record last year which included a 6-4 mark in ACC play. Their season culminated with a quarterfinal birth in the ACC tournament where they lost, 2-1, to Tennessee.
What Lies Ahead
Following Louisville, the Orange stay home for a battle with #6 Florida State (7-2, 1-0 ACC) on Sunday, Sep. 29 at SU Soccer Stadium.
Syracuse's game against Louisville will be shown live on ACC Network Extra, but fans can only watch it if their cable provider carries the ACC Network. Fans unsure if their provider carries ACCN are strongly encouraged to visit GetACCN.com.
