Orange Duo Set for World Championships
9/26/2019 10:36:00 AM | Cross Country, Track and Field
Two former Orange standouts will be in Doha, Qatar this weekend at the IAAF World Championships to represent their countries on track and field's biggest stage.
Two-time NCAA Champion Justyn Knight (Canada) and Flings Owusu-Agyapong (Ghana) will compete in the 5,000-meters and 4x100-meter relay, respectively at the event.
Neither is a stranger to international competition. Knight ran at the 2017 IAAF World Championships, taking ninth in the event before his standout senior campaign at Syracuse. Owusu-Agyapong has competed internationally as well, highlighted by her being Ghana's flag bearer at the 2016 Olympics.
Knight, who won the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championship and 2018 NCAA Indoor 5,000-meters championship, was the most decorated track athlete in the history of the ACC. Knight won 16 ACC Championships at 'Cuse (five team, 11 individual) between cross country and track. He was an 11-time USTFCCCA All-American between the sports as well, including 10 first team honors.
Owusu-Agyapong took 26th in the 100-meter dash at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio after graduating in 2012. The 2012 BIG EAST Champion in the 60-meter dash, Owusu-Agyapong was a two-time USTFCCCA All-American, earning second team honors (indoor) in 2012 and honorable mention accolades (outdoor) in 2011.
Action at the IAAF World Championships begins on Friday, Sept. 27, with Knight racing on day one. He'll race in the second heat of the event, which will be at 8 p.m. local time or 1 p.m. eastern time.
