
Gardner, Ferrin Tabbed Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Syracuse University student-athletes Massimo Ferrin (men's soccer) and Dana Gardner (volleyball) are the Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 30.

Gardner, a junior and native of Knoxville, Tennessee, is majoring in psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences. She is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all four of her semesters on campus so far. Gardner has also made it on the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Honor Roll after her freshman and sophomore seasons, posting a perfect 4.0 GPA in 2018-19. Thirteen members of the 2018 Syracuse volleyball team earned ACC Academic Honor Roll accolades, and the Orange were among the recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.

A middle blocker, Gardner has recorded nine total blocks in 19 sets played this season for the Orange.

Ferrin, a senior from Mississauga, Ontario, is a communication and rhetorical studies major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. He transferred to Syracuse after his sophomore season at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he was a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll following his freshman season. Ferrin has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his two semesters here in Syracuse.

A forward, Ferrin has scored three goals and provided eight points for Ian McIntyre's squad in the 2019 campaign.

Gardner and Syracuse volleyball (4-5) play their home opener this Friday against Wake Forest at the Women's Building. Admission and parking for the match are both free. On-Campus clubs will be recognized at the match. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.

Ferrin and men's soccer (3-2-4) host Albany on Tuesday night at SU Soccer Stadium before traveling to conference opponent Duke on Friday evening. Kickoff for both matches is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Tuesday's match will stream live on ACC Network Extra. Admission and parking are free.
