GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second time in three weeks, Syracuse redshirt senior Sterling Hofrichter has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Specialist of the Week. Hofrichter earned his latest award on Monday, Sept. 30 for his performance in Saturday's 41-3 Orange victory over Holy Cross. He was previously recognized on Sept. 16 for his work in Syracuse's home opener against Clemson.
Â
Hofrichter punted five times for 215 yards (43.0 avg.) with a net average of 42 yards per punt against Holy Cross. Four of his five punts were downed inside the 20-yard line, with three resulting in fair catches. Two of his kicks traveled at least 50 yards.
Â
In the process, Hofrichter became the fourth Syracuse player with 10,000+ career punting yards. He joined Brendan Carney (11,534), Rob Long (11,381) and Mike Shafer (10,073) in that elite group. Hofrichter has 10,021 yards in 42 career games.
Â
Hofrichter also connected on a 52-yard field goal in the first quarter against the Crusaders that gave the Orange a 17-0 lead. It was Hofrichter's first field goal of the season and the longest of his career.
Â
Hofrichter and the Orange (3-2, 0-1 ACC) return to action on Thursday, Oct. 10 when they visit NC State (3-2, 0-1 ACC). Kickoff between the Orange and Wolfpack is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ESPN.
