Syracuse, N.Y. – After a thrilling double overtime victory in the home opener on Monday night, the 18th-ranked Syracuse University field hockey team (3-0) travels to Ithaca, N.Y., to square off against Central New York foe Cornell (0-0) on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 12 pm. This will be the 32nd meeting between the Orange and Big Red. 'Cuse holds the all-time series lead 29-2-1. The two teams last met in 2016 when Syracuse shutout Cornell, 5-0.
The Orange enter the weekend matchup at Cornell riding a three-game win streak to start the year. Freshman Charlotte de Vries notched a goal, her fourth of the season, in Monday's win over Lafayette. She leads the team with nine points and has scored two game-winning goals this season. Sophomore Laura Graziosi leads the team with a pair of assists and was the overtime hero on Monday night scoring the game-winning goal in Monday's win.
Saturday is Cornell's first game of the season. The Big Red capped off the 2018 season winning their last two games, finishing the year 5-12 overall. Last season's point leader, Grace Royer, is back for her junior year. The forward notched six goals and two assists over 17 games.
Following the Saturday matinee at Cornell, 'Cuse returns home on Friday, Sept. 13 to face No. 17 Saint Joseph's at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
