Tivnan's Goal Helps 'Cuse By Miami
10/29/2020 7:17:00 PM | Women's Soccer
A first-half goal by junior Jenna Tivnan held up and Syracuse (1-6, 1-6) claimed a 1-0 victory at Miami (0-8, 0-7) in an ACC match.
COACH ADAMS SAID
"It was a tremendous team performance from our group tonight! It was a total team effort. They really gritted it out and deserved this tough win on the road!"
TIVNAN TALLIES FIRST
Tivnan put Syracuse in front at the 31:50 mark when she headed in a corner kick from freshman Lindsay Brick. It was one of many opportunities the Orange offense fashioned in the first 45 minutes. Syracuse held a 9-3 shot advantage at the break, including two tries apiece from Tivnan and junior Meghan Root.
Tivnan's goal and Brick's assist both represented the first point for each player's collegiate career.
PROULX BUSY, BUT NOT AS BUSY
Senior Lysianne Proulx, the national leader in saves per game, was tested, but not as frequently as she has been used to this fall. She earned her fourth career shutout after making three saves.
Proulx entered the contest averaging 10.2 saves a contest. The Miami match was only the second match this year where she was called upon to make less than nine saves.
SHOT ADVANTAGE GOES TO SYRACUSE
The Orange outshot the Hurricanes 12-10. Four of Syracuse's attempts came from Tivnan, while senior Shannon Aviza and Root each contributed two shots.
NEXT GAME
Syracuse completes its fall campaign when it hosts Virginia on Sunday, Nov. 1, at noon. It will be senior day at the SU Soccer Stadium. 11 Syracuse seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony. The contest will be telecast by RSN.
Syracuse University Athletics remains committed to doing everything it can to support and protect the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, our staff and the campus and Syracuse communities.
