The 5th-ranked Syracuse volleyball team lost in straight-sets at 6th-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday night. Junior Polina Shemanova paced the Orange (2-2 overall, 2-2 ACC) with 15 kills and had 14 digs. Notre Dame's (3-0, 3-0) Caroline Meuth had a match-high 17 kills.

Syracuse junior Elena Karakasi recorded 19 assists and senior Ella Saada inched closer to the 800-career kills mark with eight on the night. She has 793 in her Orange tenure.

In the first set, the Orange took an early 7-4 lead and then the Irish fought back to tie the score at 13. Notre Dame then took the lead for good and won the set, 25-18.

Syracuse opened a 5-0 lead in the second set before the Irish battled back. With the match tied at 14, the teams engaged in a back-and-forth affair that had three ties down the stretch. Notre Dame pulled out the 26-24 win.

In the third set, the Irish never trailed en route to a 25-16 win in the set and the 3-0 match victory.

The Orange return to the court with a pair of matches at Louisville on Friday, October 9^th (7 pm) and Saturday, October 10^th (6 pm).
