As Syracuse hosts Duke after a bye week, the Orange head into Saturday's matchup seeking a second-straight victory. The game will be televised on ACC Regional Sports Networks, which will be YES Network for those in New York.
If the Orange defense continues their success at taking the ball away, they'll put themselves in a good position to even their record at 2-2.
Syracuse currently ranks second nationally in takeaways (10) and third in turnover margin (+6) this season. Those numbers aren't the product of a three-game sample size either. Over the last three seasons, Syracuse has been one of the best in the country in taking the ball away.
No team in the FBS has more takeaways than Syracuse's 66 since the start of 2018. 'Cuse finished third nationally with 31 turnovers gained in 2018 and 12th nationally with 25 in 2019 before their 10 through three games to open this year.
On the flip side, Duke has turned the ball over 15 times through its first-four games, a mark which is last in FBS football among the 74 teams who are currently competing. However, Babers said earlier this week that he expects the Blue Devils to take better care of the football, fo
"I believe that Coach Cutcliffe is one of the sharpest guys I've met in coaching and I really believe he's going to right that ship," Babers said. "He's not the guy you want to be going against when things are going bad and he's rallying the troops. They're going to come in here ready to go… He's not going to allow [the turnovers] to continue to happen. I expect to be playing a Duke team that's not going to be turning the ball over a bunch."
Thus far in 2020, Mikel Jones (2), Ja'Had Carter, Trill Williams, Andre Cisco, and Josh Black have each come away with an interception, while Jones, Steve Linton and Aaron Bolinsky have recovered fumbles to give Syracuse opportunities to score.
Action gets underway at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, with no fans permitted to attend.
