Junior Emily Engstler recorded her first double-double of the season in 18th-ranked Syracuse's 92-68 loss at North Carolina on Thursday night in Carmichael Arena. The forward scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to post her 10th career double-double for the Orange (4-1, 1-1 ACC). North Carolina (5-2, 1-2 ACC) jumped out to a 12-point lead after the first quarter and Syracuse could not overcome the deficit. The loss snaps Syracuse's season-opening four game win streak.
"We're a deep enough team and have good enough players to be able to fight through this," said head coach Quentin Hillsman. "We're going to play our freshmen more and go deeper into our bench to find the combination that will run the floor, play the game the way we need to play and be aggressive."
