After finishing his first full season of action tied for the ACC lead in passes defended, redshirt-freshman cornerback Garrett Williams has been named to The Athletic's Freshman All-America Team.
Williams wrapped up 2020 as the ACC leader in passes defended (12), which ranks seventh nationally and was second amongst all rookies. He also ranked seventh nationally and led all FBS freshmen in pass breakups (10).
The leading tackler among ACC cornerbacks at 5.8 per game, Williams also had two highlight interceptions on the season. He became the first player to return an interception for a touchdown against Clemson's Trevor Lawrence and made a leaping highlight-reel interception against Louisville.
Pro Football Focus previously ranked he and teammate Ifeatu Melifonwu as the seventh-best cornerback duo in the nation. Melifonwu was named to the All-ACC team on Tuesday, while Williams earned honorable mention honors.
