First Line Midfield Powers Orange Start

Trimboli, Curry and Dordevic have 42 combined points through 4 games.
It's always good to have options. Unless you're an opposing defensive coordinator facing the Syracuse midfield these days. Through four games, 'Cuse has proved that there's no easy option with which midfielder to pole, with each member of the first unit posting a five goal game in the last two outings.
Against Hobart, the group of Brendan Curry, Jamie Trimboli and Tucker Dordevic combined to score 12 goals and post 17 points in a 21-13 victory over the Statesmen. Hobart head coach Greg Raymond took note of the group.
"I don't know if there's a better midfield in the country," Raymond said postgame.
He's not the only one who feels that way. Inside Lacrosse listed the unit as its pick for the best midfield in the country before the year started. Through four games, it appears they're living up to the billing. The group has 41 points and 32 goals through the first four games and has Syracuse ranked eighth nationally in scoring offense at 17.0 goals per game.
Dordevic (5-2), Curry (5-1) and Trimboli (2-2) gave Hobart all it could handle on Friday night, but it's not a one-off example. Trmiboli scored five goals of his own to lead 'Cuse past Army a week ago. Curry has scored three-or-more points in each of the last three games as well.
"I always say that these are two of the best players I've ever played with in my life," Trimboli said of his linemates in a recent interview. "To be able to be out there with them is great, and they're two of my best buddies so it means a lot. We have a ton of weapons on offense and it's going to be tough to guard us without six poles out there. We're going to try to attack the shorty matchups and we feel like we can dominate those against pretty much anyone. We have can move the ball and we have a great, unselfish unit that can help us put balls in the net."
Trimboli and Curry were members of the first line last year, without Dordevic, who missed all of last season due to injury. Trimboli is a two-time All-American, Curry was an All-American last season and Dordevic's career-high seven-point game against Hobart showed the potential he has to join them on those award lists.

"I think that we knew it was going to happen, it was just a matter of when," Head Coach John Desko said of Dordevic's breakout game. "He hadn't played in two years and he needed to get some game action under his belt. It's good to get him back out there. He goes hard all the time and I was very happy that things dropped more often tonight for him and I think you'll continue to keep seeing him go up from here."
In addition to the first line, the weapons continue down the depth chart. Jacob Buttermore, David Lipka and Lucas Quinn have combined to score 10 goals as well and have 15 points through four games.
'Cuse hits the road for the first time on Saturday, March 7 when they face longtime rival Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field. The game will face off at 1 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPN3. Tickets to the remaining Orange home games are available at Cuse.com/Tickets, by calling 888-DOME-TIX or visiting the Syracuse Box Office located in the Ensley Athletic Center.
