
Hawryschuk Named National, ACC Player of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse senior attack Emily Hawryschuk, the nation's leading scorer, is the IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week. In addition, she has earned ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Last week, Hawryschuk recorded eight goals and nine points in just two games. She had a hat trick against Colgate, and then went on to post five goals and six points against the reigning national champions, Maryland. The Victor, N.Y. native's five goals tied the Terrapins' entire team, and helped the Orange to a 10-5 victory in College Park, Md. The win marked the second victory against Maryland in program history. Syracuse is the only team to beat the Terrapins twice on their home turf.

In the victory, Hawryschuk had two goals and an assist in the first half to help the Orange take a 4-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. After the Terrapins cut Syracuse's lead to one at 5-4, she scored three of the Orange's final five goals.

Hawryschuk is climbing the Syracuse record books with her monster season thus far. She has 39 points on 35 goals and four assists. Hawryschuk leads the country in points and goals and is second in goals per game (5.0). Her 201 career points for the Orange puts her seventh on the school's career points list.

Hawryschuk and the Orange begin ACC conference play on Sunday, March 8 against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The two squads will face off at 1:30 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C. as part of the Crown Lacrosse Classic.
