SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Kenneth Hubbard (men's rowing) and Morgan Alexander (women's lacrosse) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 30.
Â
Hubbard, a senior, is double majoring in entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises and marketing management in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. Hubbard has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester he's been at Syracuse. The Boca Raton, Fla., native is a member of the professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, the iSchool technology research group NEXIS, and has volunteered at local high schools through the Balancing the Books program.
Â
Last season, Hubbard rowed in the 2V for wins over Wisconsin, Cornell, and Navy and rowed 6-seat of the 3V for wins over Boston and Columbia. He moved up to the 1V for the postseason, his boat placing seventh at the Eastern Sprints and ninth at IRA National Championships. Hubbard and the rest of the men's rowing team weren't able to compete during the 2020 spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic canceling the season.
Â
Alexander is a graduate student pursuing her master's in broadcast and digital journalism through the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and she has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for five semesters.
Â
Alexander's 2020 season came to an untimely end after the Adams, N.Y. native suffered an injury on her left leg in practice on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Alexander recorded seven points on four goals and three assists as part of the Orange's starting attack in the first four games of the year.
Â
Alexander made her Syracuse debut in 2019 after missing her first three years with four injuries to her right knee. She posted five points on three goals and two assists against Connecticut in the season opener and finished the year with 22 points (20-2).
Â
Syracuse (7-1) was ranked fourth in the final Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll released on Thursday, March 19. The Orange were on a six-game win streak before the season was cut short. Two of those victories came at No. 6 Northwestern and No. 11 Maryland. When the season was canceled, the Orange had the top-ranked defense in the nation, allowing 7.00 goals per game, while senior goalkeeper Asa Goldstock had the lowest goals-against average (7.07) in the country. Offensively, senior Emily Hawryschuk ranked second nationally in goals (39) and fifth in points (46).
